In January of 2012 the ABC Television Network hit show Extreme Makeover Home Edition approached the Golf Course Builders Association of America (GCBAA) to assist with a build for the Shilo Harris family in the San Antonio, Texas area. Show designers and local landscape architect Jon Robinson with Horizon Design wanted to feature a golf practice area for Shilo and his family to continue to enjoy the game of golf. Shilo, a retired Army staff sergeant who served our country in Iraq has severe burns from an improvised explosive device from 2007. The injuries had prevented him from enjoying the game.

The association and its members from Texas and across the country supported the project by donating construction materials, labor, and equipment during the week-long build of the Spanish ranch-style home designed specifically for his special needs and includes outdoor amenities for Shilo and his family and friends.

Extreme Makeover Home Edition announced this episode to be their finale to the ninth season. Through a number of initiatives spread across the entire golf industry, the game of golf supports our veterans. Please take a moment to click through the different support organizations for disabled veterans.

On behalf of more than 28 million American's who play the sport and the millions more who watch, members of the golf industry would like to share with you other important initiatives and statistics on the U.S golf industry and the positive contributions of the game.
